The City of Philadelphia Controller's Office has been recognized for its excellent work on numerous occasions. The National Association of Local Government Auditors' Knighton Award was received in 2006 with respect to the Police Facilities Audit, highlighting the dangerous conditions and severity of structural problems existing in Police Districts. This prestigious award, named in honor of Dr. Lennis Knighton, recognizes the best performance audit report by a local government audit shop. In 2003, the City Controller's Office was again presented with the 2002 Knighton Award for its report entitled Review of Pension Payment to Deceased Beneficiaries.

Also in 2002, the Controller's Office was awarded the President's Council on Integrity & Efficiency Award for Excellence in recognition of exemplary teamwork in conducting joint federal, state, and local audits of state public school accountability systems and methods for ensuring data quality accountability.

In 2000, the Controller's Office was awarded the Special Projects award for it's City Hall Revitalization -- A Plan Report. It is a consideration of City Hall and its future, and strategies to implement a full City Hall revitalization plan.

Philadelphia: A New Urban Direction received the 1999 "Special Project Award" from the National Association of Local Government Auditors. The unprecedented consideration of the "state of the City" was declared a "must read" for all local government audit professionals.

The 1997 Mid-Year Economic and Financial Report was selected to receive the "Special Project Award" by the National Association of Local Government Auditors. The examination of the City's economic and financial condition received praise for its accessible assessment of the City's fiscal outlook.

The City Controller's On-line Office was selected as LibertyNet's Site of the Month for November, 1996. MuniNet Guide & Review lauded this site: "Laden with personality and informative content, this site provides an inviting gateway into city fiscal matters."

In 1995, the Controller's Office's 9-1-1 Emergency System Audit was selected as a finalist for a Knighton Award by the National Association of Local Government Auditors. The examination of the City's Emergency System won recognition for its thorough overview of this crucial City function.
